Marlins' Carter Capps undergoes MRI on elbow

Miami Marlins reliever Carter Capps underwent an MRI on his right elbow.

What It Means:

Uh oh. Capps was shut down early last season due to a right elbow strain, and apparently he's still having issues. Results of the MRI aren't yet known, but he's likely to go for a second opinion. The hard-throwing right-hander was expected to compete with A.J. Ramos for the closer role this spring, but this issue will obviously set him back a bit at the very least.

Capps was incredibly dominant last season when healthy. His 1.17 xFIP and whopping 49.2 strikeout percentage were best among relievers with at least 30 innings pitched, and his 90.9 left-on-base percentage was sixth best. He's worth drafting even if Ramos is named the closer to begin the 2016 season, because he could easily take over that role before long. However, his latest injury development is cause for concern.
