Indians ink Craig Stammen to minors deal
Cleveland Indians signed reliever Craig Stammen to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Stammen pitched just four innings across five appearances in 2015 because of an elbow injury which ultimately required surgery, but he's expected to be close to full health heading into the 2016 season. If Stammen pitches well during Cactus League play, he'll have a shot at making Cleveland's Opening Day bullpen.
Stammen posted a 3.40 xFIP in 72 2/3 innings in 2014 with the Washington Nationals. He owns a career 3.12 xFIP since 2011, which is when he moved to the bullpen full-time, to go along with a 22.2 strikeout percentage, above the league average of 20.4 percent.
