Pirates announce Neftali Feliz signing

The Pittsburgh Pirates signed pitcher Neftali Feliz to a one-year, $3.9 million contract.

What It Means:

The deal was reported earlier Wednesday, and it's now official. The Detroit Tigers non-tendered Feliz in November after he struggled to a 6.38 ERA last season, but the Pirates are taking a chance on him getting back on track.

Feliz posted a 4.42 xFIP across 48 innings pitched with the Tigers and Texas Rangers. His strikeout percentage (18.4) and walk percentage (8.5) were both worse than league average, but a move to the National League should theoretically benefit Feliz. However, going from Comerica Park in Detroit to PNC Park in Pittsburgh is a downgrade, according to ESPN's Park Factors.
