Jacob deGrom's start for Mets shifted to Saturday due to strep

New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom will now start on Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals after being diagnosed with strep throat.

What It Means:

deGrom was initially scheduled to pitch Friday, but Jason Vargas will now toe the rubber instead. The 30-year-old right-hander owns a 3.68 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 36 strikeouts and 7 walks over 22 innings this season. He's given up 9 combined runs in the past two starts after tossing back-to-back shutouts to begin the year.

numberFire's models expect deGrom to twirl a 2.82 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 249 punchouts and 47 walks over the rest of the season.
