Mariners send James Paxton to Yankees for 3 minor leaguers
The Seattle Mariners have traded pitcher James Paxton to the New York Yankees for minor leaguers Justus Sheffield, Erik Swanson, and Don Thompson-Williams.
The Mariners made it clear the fire sale would be on this offseason and Monday signaled the first significant piece on the move. Paxton has been electric when on the mound -- 3.52 ERA and 10.3 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched the last three seasons. The issue has been his health as the lefty has never thrown for more than 160 1/3 innings in a season. The 30-year-old is under contract for two more seasons.
Paxton posted a 3.76 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 208 strikeouts and 42 walks in 160 1/3 innings pitched last season.
