3 MLB Prop Bets to Target on 5/15/18

Our models are high on C.J. Cron for his date with Ian Kennedy, making Cron one of the day's better prop bets. Where else can you find betting value?

Prop betting odds can be useful in daily fantasy sports to help gauge the potential performance of a player on any given night in the MLB. Likewise, the same principles can be applied in the opposite direction -- by using our fantasy projections and models to help make more informed prop bets.

Using the odds available at Bovada Sportsbook, here are three prop bets available for Opening Day that are good plays based on our daily MLB game projections.

Please note that Vegas lines and our game projections may change throughout the day after this article is published.

Philadelphia Phillies at Baltimore Orioles

Odubel Herrera OVER 2.5 Runs, Hits, and RBI (+120)

Odubel Herrera is on pace for a huge breakout season in 2018, and his month of May has been nothing short of scorching. The Philadelphia Phillies' outfielder is hitting .400 this month, and our models like him to continue the hot hitting on Tuesday.

It's a small sample, but Herrera has owned right-hander Andrew Cashner in the past, going 6-for-14 (.429) with 2 home runs against him. On top of that, Herrera owns a .436 wOBA versus righties this season, and we are projecting Herrera for a combined 2.75 runs, hits, and RBIs in this one.

Chicago White Sox at Pittsburgh Pirates

Jose Abreu OVER 2 Runs, Hits, and RBI (-130)

Jose Abreu is coming alive as the weather warms up. The Chicago White Sox's first baseman is 14-for-42 (.333) in the month of May with 9 RBIs and 5 runs scored over 11 games.

Abreu will battle right-hander Trevor Williams, and over 121 plate appearances against right-handed pitching, Abreu has a .374 wOBA this year. Abreu also has 63 total runs, hits and RBIs versus righties, which is an average of more than 1 every 2 plate appearances. We are projecting Abreu for 2.87 runs, hits, and RBIs tonight.

Tampa Bay Rays at Kansas City Royals

C.J. Cron OVER 2 Runs, Hits, and RBI (-125)

C.J. Cron is another first baseman our models are high on for today as he will face off against Ian Kennedy and the Kansas City Royals. Cron comes into this one riding a seven-game hit streak, and he has racked up a total of 18 runs, hits, and RBIs over that stretch.

So far this campaign, Kennedy has struggled against right-handed hitters, who own a .370 wOBA over 100 total batters against himi. For Tuesday, with Cron's prop total so low, our models like him for 2.86 runs, hits, and RBIs, making him a great value.
