4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 9/20/17

The Red Sox have been involved in back-to-back extra-inning contests with the Orioles. They have a good matchup that could help them open Wednesday night's game up offensive, but is that enough to consider them the top stacking option on the slate?

Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.

Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.

Now, let's get to the stacks.

Boston Red Sox

If you missed the first two games of this series, they were absolute nail-biters between the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. The Sox erased a five-run deficit in the first contest to win in extra innings, followed by another win in extras for Boston. With Chris Sale opposing Wade Miley, the final game of this set may not be so close, currently reflected in the money line for the Sox (-187).

In 149 innings pitched, Miley has struggled to a 5.32 ERA and a 12.3% walk-rate, with a 5.01 SIERA telling us he really hasn't been great. Even worse, in 25 starts since May 1st, Miley has recorded a double-digit swinging-strike rate only four times. Not only is he not getting a ton of swings and misses, but righties are also blasting him for a .372 wOBA, a 31.5% hard-hit rate, and 1.54 homers per nine innings pitched.

If there's one dude on the Red Sox that can launch a tater or two, it's Mookie Betts.

Betts has been fantastic this season, and he has enjoyed a lot of success against southpaws, racking up a .370 wOBA, a 34.3% hard-hit rate, and a 38.0% fly-ball rate. He is expensive at $4,500, as we might expect, so we need to search for some value bats in order to fit him in.

Dustin Pedroia ($3,200) makes for a great top-of-the-order option, and has been sensational with the platoon advantage in 2017 -- he's recorded a .397 wOBA, 31.4% hard-hit rate and 32.6% fly-ball rate against them (just make sure he's in the lineup). For a very cheap option, check out Sam Travis ($2,000), as he's socked lefties for a .445 wOBA and 1.031 OPS.

While not a righty, Rafael Devers ($3,300) has enjoyed hitting off lefties in the big leagues, and could give you some contrarian exposure. In 48 plate appearances, he's ripped 'em for a 213 wRC+.
