MLB Daily Fantasy Helper: Wednesday 6/21/17

Jeff Samardzija has been better than his ERA would indicate this year, and he has a solid matchup with the Atlanta Braves on tap. Is he the top pitcher on the board for MLB DFS?

The beauty of daily fantasy baseball is that the top targets are different each and every day. Whether it's the right-handed catcher who destroys left-handed pitching or the mid-range hurler facing a depleted lineup, you're not going to find yourself using the same assets time after time.

While this breaks up the monotony, it can make it hard to decide which players are primed to succeed on a given day. We can help bridge that gap.

In addition to our custom optimal lineups, you can check out our batting and pitching heat maps, which show the pieces in the best spot to succeed on that slate. Put on the finishing touches with our games and lineups page to see who's hitting where and what the weather looks like, and you'll have yourself a snazzy looking team to put up some big point totals. We've also got our Solo Shot Podcast, which breaks down the MLB daily fantasy slate each day. Here's today's episode.

If you need help getting started on that trek, here are some of the top options on the board today.

Pitchers to Target

High-Priced Pitchers

Jeff Samardzija ($8,900 on FanDuel): Scheduling has not been kind to Jeff Samardzija this year. Of his 14 starts, two have come at the hitter's paradise known as Coors Field. If you omit those two starts from his resume, Samardzija's ERA goes down a full run to 3.81. If you take out an additional start at Chase Field -- the third-best park for offense -- his ERA falls to 3.36. That number aligns well with Samardzija's 3.20 SIERA, which is easily the best mark on the slate for pitchers who aren't at Coors Field. His 27.5% strikeout rate gives Samardzija a ceiling, and his 3.4% walk rate and 28.0% hard-hit rate elevate his floor. The only complaint about Samardzija today is that he'll face an Atlanta Braves team that rarely strikes out against righties. Don't let the ERA fool you; Samardzija is pitching like a boss and is worthy of your attention in DFS.
