David Price, P, Boston Red Sox

Price: $9,800

We have a two-game slate on tap tonight, and that means there are just four starting pitching options. Only one of the four is priced above even $9,000, and David Price is well worth paying up for.

Neither one of tonight's matchups is particularly close, but the Boston Red Sox are -200 favorites against a Chicago White Sox team that has a 3.61 implied total. The Los Angeles Angels, in the other game, are -156 favorites and the Toronto Blue Jays have a 3.87 implied total. So while Tyler Skaggs is certainly a full tier (or two) ahead of the underdog pitchers tonight, there's a big gap in what oddsmakers expect from Skaggs and the Angels compared to Price and the Sox.

Price is coming off a solid 2018 season, having notched a 3.82 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) and a 24.5% strikeout rate, and he's crushed those marks through five starts in 2019, with a 3.21 SIERA and 31.6% strikeout rate.

It's been a small sample, but considering his swinging-strike rate is up to 14.1%, smashing his previous career-best of 11.9%, that increase in strikeout rate could very well be here to stay.

The White Sox are also striking out at a top-eight clip (24.9%) this season, so while their 105 wRC+ does make this a bit of a tough matchup, Price's strikeout potential is more than enough to make up for that, securing him a spot as the clear-cut top pitcher on the slate.

Our models agree, projecting him for 6.2 more fantasy points than Skaggs.
