David Bote, 3B, Chicago Cubs

Price: $2,500

Thanks to injuries to the Atlanta Braves' pitching staff, Max Fried will be switching roles from reliever to starting pitcher, as he did five times last year.

In those five starts he showed some nasty strikeout stuff, with a 30.0% strikeout rate, but also walked 15.6% of the batters he faced. When opponents did make contact, it came with a 44.7% hard-hit rate and only a 10.0% soft-hit rate. Even if we expand our view to his entire 2018 campaign, he allowed a 42.1% hard-hit rate with a 14.5% soft-hit rate, walking 14.1% of batters.

David Bote gives us a fairly small 223 major league plate appearance sample to draw from, and even smaller 67 plate appearance sample against left-handed pitching.

He's made strong contact so far in the Majors though, with a 37.5% hard-hit rate. That jumps to 43.2% against southpaws, which has translated to a .374 wOBA and .204 ISO. His promise from the dish doesn't come out of nowhere, either. in 2018 he made 263 Triple-A plate appearances, notching a .361 wOBA and .226 ISO.

The Chicago Cubs are one of only three offenses on the slate with an implied total of four-plus runs, and Bote is an inexpensive way to get exposure.
