3 Under-the-Radar MLB FanDuel Plays for 8/24/18

It can be difficult to figure out how to handle these Tampa Bay Rays bullpen days sometimes, and particularly with the game at Tropicana Field, many will move right past this one, with the Boston Red Sox showing just a 4.23 implied team total.

Diego Castillo will "start" this game, but it's actually left-hander Jalen Beeks who is expected to get the majority of innings. Beeks actually shut down Boston over four scoreless innings in his last appearance, but it's difficult to see lightning striking twice. Although he showed promise in the minors, between the Red Sox and Rays, he's posted a 6.91 ERA, 4.41 SIERA, 19.2% strikeout rate, and 11.2% walk rate over 28 2/3 innings. We may not have a large sample size to work with, but do you want to side with that, or with the team that's already won 90 games this season?

Most importantly, getting a chance to roster the likes of J.D. Martinez at lower ownership is a good deal regardless, giving us access to a behemoth .439 wOBA, .322 ISO, and 46.1% hard-hit rate. Sitting near the top of the leaderboards in both average exit velocity and barrels per plate appearance, Beeks and Tropicana Field may have a hard time containing Martinez on Friday.
