J.D. Davis hasn't been especially productive through his first 38 games in the Majors, though he has shown some promising power. He has a .315 wOBA and .196 ISO, which come on 35.8% hard-hit and 13.4% soft-hit rates.

The sample size is tiny if we just look at only his work against southpaws, but the upside he has shown versus lefties is tough to ignore. He has a .354 wOBA and .323 ISO in 37 plate appearances, with an absurd 65.0% hard-hit and 5.0% soft-hit rate.

Obviously, those numbers are not sustainable, but in a plus matchup against Boston's Drew Pomeranz and his 4.94 SIERA, being priced only $100 above the minimum doesn't at all reflect the kind of upside that Davis offers.
