Nathan Eovaldi is making his first start since 2016, and it's hard to expect much from him, considering his pedestrian 4.26 SIERA and 17.0% strikeout rate for his career. He also didn't exactly impress during his recent rehab assignment, giving up eight earned runs over four innings in his last Triple-A start.
And yet the Oakland Athletics are only showing a 4.00 implied team total, so they might not get the attention they deserve in this plum spot. Sure, Oakland Coliseum isn't the best venue for dingers, but this is a lineup with plenty of capable power bats.
Matt Olson is starting to show some of the power that made him such an exciting player when he burst onto the scene last year. His 51.9% hard-hit rate ranks second in the league behind only J.D. Martinez, and he's boasting a .253 ISO in the month of May. It may surprise you that his average exit velocity is actually higher than last year.
A sneaky Oakland stack is very much in play, or you can add Olson as an affordable one-off to fill out a tournament roster.
