While his 2017 ERA was inflated, Samardzija's peripherals indicate that he was a solid pitcher a season ago. Throughout his career, he has been especially tough on right-handed hitters, holding them to a .296 wOBA, 31.4% fly-ball rate, and a 25.6% hard-hit rate.

Against right-handed pitchers, Kinsler turns into a very average hitter, as his 102 wRC+ against right-handers is well below his career 133 wRC+ against southpaws. The primary reason for this is Kinsler's inability to square up the ball against right-handed pitchers, as indicated by his 28.7% career hard-hit rate against right-handed pitching.

Against a tough right-hander, Kinsler can be avoided in cash games.
