Whit Merrifield, OF, Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals have one of the higher implied team totals on the board (4.97) against Reynaldo Lopez, who may have a promising future, but hasn't looked ready for The Show yet. He has a poor 5.56 SIERA over six starts this season.

However, despite getting the strong matchup and holding the lucrative leadoff spot, the astronomical salary of Whit Merrifield takes him out of consideration. Merrifield has had some big nights this month, even putting up a 46.6-point monster outing on Wednesday. But his recent hot streak is largely BABIP-driven (.358 in September), and he only holds a .328 wOBA against righties this year. His 32 stolen bases certainly add some upside, but it's not enough to warrant paying nearly the same price as elite bats like Paul Goldschmidt and J.D. Martinez.

If you want exposure to the Royals, consider paying down for Mike Moustakas.
