Max Scherzer's two starts in September have been pretty weak by the high standard he set earlier in the season, but you don't have to look too far back to see why he has been such a valuable fantasy option. His final three starts in August produced a total of 29 strikeouts.

Even with the recent hiccups, he ranks third among qualifying pitchers in SIERA (2.90), second with a 34.7% strikeout rate, and first with a 15.8% swinging-strike rate.

The Atlanta Braves rank below-average with a 93 wRC+ against right-handed pitching, and oddsmakers don't expect them to give Scherzer much trouble. Atlanta owns the day's lowest implied total (3.03), while the Washington Nationals are the day's biggest favorites (-290 money line).
