Max Scherzer is showing off some seriously nasty strikeout stuff. This would be his third straight year with a strikeout rate far north of 3.00% (with a career-high 32.2%) and a swinging-strike rate slightly north of 15.0% (15.1%). He's also sporting a strong 2.99 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA).

Even better, he has an outstanding matchup against a San Diego Padres team that ranks 25th against right-handed pitching with an 84 wRC+ and whose 24.5% strikeout rate against righties is the second highest in the majors.

The Washington Nationals are also the day's biggest favorites (-233 money line) and the Padres' 3.02 is the lowest on the slate.
