HORSE RACING

Del Mar Horse Racing Picks for Monday 9/7/20

There are 11 races on closing day at Del Mar, including the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity for two-year-olds. Which horses should you bet on at FanDuel Racing?

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 4:00 p.m. EST, we have 11 races at Del Mar Racetrack. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Eddie’s New Dream and Sensible Cat, Race 6

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2 and 6/1

Closing Day at Del Mar is a mandatory payout of the Pick 6, and the jockey title is on the line: Umberto Rispoli has 49 wins at the summer meet, and Flavien Prat has 48 wins. Race 6 is the first leg of the Pick 6 and is a Maiden Special Weight for Cal-bred 2-year-old fillies sprinting 6 furlongs.

The favorite, Eddie’s New Dream (5/2), is working very sharply in the mornings with bullets on her work tab since finishing second in her debut August 1st. She broke slowly and rallied well at a shorter distance and is a potential standout. The top pick according to numberFire's data is Sensible Cat (8/1). She has a consistent work tab in place for her debut. Leading jockey Umberto Rispoli rides this juvenile, who was sired by Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes runner-up Bluegrass Cat.

Ensleys Dream (3/1) is a projected board hitter by numberFire, and she wheels back following a runner-up finish in her debut just two weeks ago. She pressed the pacesetter in fast fractions but was unable to pass the favorite. Big Stretch (6/1) is also working well for her debut for EPO trainer Phil D’Amato.

Get Her Number and Ambivalent, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/1 and 10/1

Race 9 is the Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes for 2-year-olds racing 1-mile.

Daily Horse Picks' algorhithm projects Get Her Number (6/1) to win with Big Fish (10/1) and Rombauer (9/2) to finish in-the-money. The sharp debut win going a mile by Rombauer makes him a top contender. He came from the back, rallied outside, and surged down the lane to come home impressively in fewer than 23 seconds in the final quarter mile, passing the favorite, Caisson, who was scratched from today’s race.

So Flavien Prat picked up the mount of Get Her Number (6/1) for leading trainer Peter Miller. Get Her Number won his debut with the highest, last race speed figure (86) in mid-August.

The race has a different look for numberFire's projections, where the top two picks are Ambivalent (10/1) and Herd Immunity (12/1), who finished sixth when disqualified in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes a month ago and is one of four runners in the race for trainer Peter Miller.

Ambivalent switches to turf while making his third start in a month for trainer Doug O’Neill, having just missed in a runner-up finish as the favorite 10 days ago. Big Fish (10/1) found his home on grass last out with a sharp maiden win versus Calbreds.

Dr. Schivel, Race 10

FanDuel Racing Odds: 8/5

Race 10 is the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity for 2-year-olds racing 7 furlongs. The top pick according to Daily Horse Picks' data is the favorite, Dr. Schivel (8/5), with Flavien Prat riding from the outer post of six runners. However, numberFire likes her to hit the board, but the algorithm picks Weston (6/1) to win, and Dixie’s Two Stents (3/1) can finish in-the-money according to numberFire’s projections. Weston is undefeated in two starts including a Grade 2 win, but his speed does not match Dr. Schivel's.

Dr. Schivel popped a 98 speed number in his first try at Del Mar to win in his third start a month ago against a good group of Maidens that included the favorite in that race Spielberg (2/1), who returns for the Del Mar Futurity for trainer Bob Baffert with jockey Abel Cedillo in the irons. Scooby (12/1) was runner-up 17 days ago as the favorite and now is double-digit odds with Umberto Rispoli riding.
