Del Mar Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 9/6/20

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 4:00 p.m. EST, we have 11 races at Del Mar Racetrack. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Madone, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1

Raced 8 is the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf for 2-year-old fillies racing 1-mile. It was an impressive career debut win from off the pace for Madone (3/1), which makes her the one to beat in this race as she repeats the one mile distance. Top jockey Flavien Prat, who rode four winners yesterday, tries to bring Madone home fast again after covering the final quarter mile in her last race in a solid 24.36 seconds.

Daily Horse Picks' algorithm projects Madone to win and Richard Mandella-trained Ivy League (4/1) to finish second. Ivy League was the beaten favorite when finishing second to Madone in that last race. Leading jockey Umberto Rispoli has 25 of his 45 wins in turf route races.

In a potential upset, numberFire projects European runner Inner Beauty (5/1) to win in her U.S. debut after racing five times with a win in the UK. Nimbostratus (6/1) also makes her U.S. debut and is projected to hit the board for EPO trainer Peter Miller.

Princess Noor, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1 and 6/1

Race 9 is the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante for 2-year-old fillies racing 7 furlongs. Our race algorithm at numberfire projects the favorite Princess Noor (8/5) to to finish second behind the projected winner My Girl Red (3/1), who is 2-for-2, winning both races by more than four lengths wire-to-wire, including a Grade 2 race a month ago.

FanDuel Racing’s implied odds suggest a 38% chance to win for Princess Noor and 25% probability for My Girl Red. Princess Noor won her debut just two weeks ago in wire-to-wire fashion as the heavy favorite, sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs. Princess Noor was a $1.35 million purchase, and Saturday’s Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Bob Baffert has another top talented runner in his barn with Princess Noor.

My Girl Red is the projected winner by Daily Horse Picks and is ridden by Del Mar’s leading jockey Prat, who has 46 wins and is one victory in front of My Girl Red jockey Rispoli. Baffert has another runner in this race, Illumination (4/1), who could take advantage of the fast pace set by the top two favorites and is expected to finish in-the-money, according to Daily Horse Picks.

Pixelate and California Kook, Race 10

FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1 and 5/1

Race 10 is the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby for 3-year-olds racing 1 1/8 miles on the turf. The favorite is East Coast shipper Pixelate (3/1), who has strong turf route rider Rispoli in the irons. Pixelate has finished in-the-money in all 10 of his starts with seven stakes races, including runner up last time out two months ago in a graded stakes race at this distance. Pixelate posted a 102 speed figure in that event.

Pixelate is the best horse in this Allowance-caliber field, but California Kook (5/1) is the projected winner by numberFire. He’s finished runner-up in three straight races -- all within a length of the winner. California Kook raced two weeks ago and smashed his best speed figure posting a 116 mark in a close defeat, coming from the back of the pack with Prat aboard to finish runner-up at 27/1 odds.

Warren’s Showtime (6/1) is a filly racing against the boys, and she posted her best-ever speed figure of 115 last race, finishing third just a half-length behind California Kook at 7/2 odds.

Daily Horse Picks projects an upset with longshot Heywoods Beach (12/1) the top pick followed by K P All Systems Go (6/1). Heywoods Beach is in good health and came from off the pace to win last month with a 92 speed rating.
