Lone Star Park Horse Racing Picks for Monday 7/20/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 1:35 p.m. EST, we have nine races at Lone Star Park. Using our projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

(I will be referencing Equibase's speed figure, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Solar City, Race 6 (5:15 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 2/1

Solar City is the odds favorite in Race 6, coming off a 58 speed figure in mid-June that rates well in this field despite a sixth-place finish. Most of the top contenders in this race have topped out with figures in the 50s. Solar City also posted a 56 figure a couple of races ago in March, earning a runner-up result. He should benefit from rider Iram Vargas Diego, who may not having eye-popping numbers in 2020 but was tops in earnings at Lone Star last year. numberFire's algorithm likes Solar City to take this race.

Goliath Ridge (5/1) and Runnin The Red (5/2) should also be in the mix, with Goliath Ridge recording speed figures of 57 and 61 in two June races and Runnin The Red tallying 59 and 58. Goliath Ridge is numberFire's pick to finish second and could a solid value if his odds don't dramatically change.

Cherished, Race 7 (5:45 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 8/5

Speed figures see a notable bump in Race 7, but if Cherished is in peak form, she should be able to handle this field with relative ease. Prior to a disappointing 62 speed figure (4th place) in early June, Cherished had back-to-back wins in April and March with marks of 96 and 92. None of her competitors have cracked a 90 figure before, with only a couple hitting the 80s. Although numberFire's algorithm doesn't pick Cherished to win, she's the top choice on Timeform.

Our algorithm does like Sweet Mary M, though, who is a winner in two of her last three, producing figures of 83 and 82 in those contests. Distorted Flash (8/1) flashed a promising 89 speed figure in a February victory but failed to finish her lone June appearance since, making her difficult to trust.

Restoring Hope, Race 8 (6:15 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 2/1

Race 8 features competitors with speed figures in the 90s and better, but Restoring Hope produced a stellar 108 the last time out that will be tough to match. A 10-month layoff isn't ideal after switching stables, but recent workouts have been promising. Restoring Hope is Timeform's pick to win.

If the long layoff scares you, there are plenty of notable alternatives, including Impact Player (9/2) and New Colossus (4/1), who have both hit triple-digit speed figures this year and are slated to finish top-three in numberFire's algorithm. Fast Breakin Cash (12/1) is numberFire's top choice and is an intriguing value at these odds.
