Patrick van Aanholt, Defender, Crystal Palace

Salary: $6,500

Listed as the defender to avoid for Matchweek 12, Van Aanholt produced 5.2 FanDuel points against Spurs, dropping his season-long average to 11.38 FanDuel points -- the second-lowest among defenders priced at or above $6,000 -- and his price did not drop since his previous match. Van Aanholt has not scored more than 11 FanDuel points in five straight matches while scoring more than 15 FanDuel points in just two matches this season -- contributing on the score sheet in both of the matches.

The Red Devils have a 73% chance of beating the Eagles, according to FanDuel, while Palace -- despite being tied with Cardiff City in points -- are just outside of the drop zone due to tiebreakers. The match has a 56.5% chance of going over 2.5 goals, while the Red Devils have a 92% chance of scoring at least one goal.

United should be able to dominate possession against Palace as the Red Devils maintain the sixth-best possession percentage (52.7%) while the Eagles average 46.9% of the overall possession. The Red Devils are top-10 in three of four defensive actions per 90 minutes given up to defenders while conceding the ninth-fewest interceptions (1.28) per 90 minutes to opposing back lines.

Van Aanholt’s upside is generally capped as the defender does not offer much in the Eagles’ attack, and he has not recorded more than four statistics in a game in any defensive category this season. At the high price range, there are other defenders who should offer a better floor than Van Aanholt has shown this season while still offering tournament-winning upside.
