Bears will release Mike Glennon when new league year starts

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace confirmed on Wednesday the team plans to release quarterback Mike Glennon when the new league year starts on March 14.

What It Means:

No surprise here as the Bears had already gone all-in with 2017 first-round pick Mitch Trubisky as their quarterback for 2018 and beyond. Glennon signed a three-year, $45M contract last March before the team drafted Trubisky. The move frees up $11m in cap space this season and $14M in 2019.

Glennon made 4 starts in 2017, completing 66.4% of his 140 pass attempts for 833 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. He recorded -0.09 net expected points per pass, ranking 35th out of the 45 QBs to attempt at least 100 passes.
