Saints' Coby Fleener's role expected to expand in early going
Saints' tight end Coby Fleener is expected to see an expanded role with wide receiver Willie Snead suspended the first three games.
Fleener's first year in New Orleans did not go as planned, but according to ESPN's Mike Triplett, the Stanford product remains the pass-catching option at tight end for Drew Brees. The Saints will need someone to step up in the slot in Snead's absence and Fleener seems like he could be the best candidate to fill those cleats.
With Snead suspended and Brandin Cooks catching passes in New England now, the Saints will need to find a way to make up for nearly 50% of their total targets from last year. Even though he's going up a tough Vikings defense in Week 1, Fleener should see some volume on Monday night. numberFire's models project Fleener for 7.2 FanDuel points at a cost of $5,100.
