Lions bolster quarterback room with Brad Kaaya at 215th overall
The Detroit Lions selected Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya with the 215th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
Kaaya, 6'4" and 214 pounds turned pro as a true junior after making 38 starts at The U, compiling a 19-19 career record. A timing-and-rhythm passer who played in a pro-style offense at Miami, Kaaya’s tape reveals sub-par arm strength and ball location. Kaaya also showed a tendency to panic under duress, persistently falling into back-foot throws. He'll be a backup at the NFL level.
Kaaya completed college with a pedestrian 60.6 percent completion rate, 8.15 yards per attempt, and 69 touchdowns to 24 interceptions. It's possible he doesn't even beat out Jake Rudock for the Lions' backup job.
