Mike Glennon still Bears' 2017 starting quarterback

Speaking at his introductory press conference on Friday, Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky acknowledged that Mike Glennon is still the team's 2017 starting quarterback.

What It Means:

The Bears stunned the football world by taking Trubisky second overall after trading four picks to move up one spot. Trubisky's comments echo general manager Ryan Pace's same declarations. "Mike is the starting quarterback and I’m very excited to learn from him and the rest of the veterans on the team," said Trubisky. Chicago is paying Glennon $16 million this year, but would only be on the hook for $2.5 million if they cut Glennon next offseason. Trubisky might redshirt 2017 before taking over in 2018, but at least until the Bears' season goes south, Glennon's job should be safe.

In 219 drop backs in 2014, Glennon earned 0.00 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back. The average Passing NEP per drop back that season was 0.10. As a team last season, Chicago's -0.01 Adjusted Offensive Passing NEP was 21st in the NFL.
