Texans dump Brock Osweiler's contract with trade to Cleveland
The Cleveland Browns acquired quarterback Brock Osweiler, a 2018 second-round pick, and a 2017 sixth-round pick from the Houston Texans in exchange for a 2017 fourth-round pick.
Salary dumps like this are typically exclusive to the NBA, but the dichotomy between Brock Osweiler's salary and pay called for creative solutions. The Browns essentially bought a second-round pick at the price of Osweiler's gargantuan contract, which they can buy out for $16 million. It's a surprisingly savvy move for Cleveland, and one that could mean the Texans now intend to acquire Tony Romo from the Dallas Cowboys.
Among the 39 quarterbacks to pick up at least 100 drop backs in 2016, Osweiler's was seventh-worst in Passing Net Expected Points per drop back.
