Patriots possibly bluffing about not trading Jimmy Garoppolo
New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo being traded is "still in play" despite Wednesday reports to the contrary, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald insists.
"Let's not pretend the Pats are hanging up the phone when teams call," Howe wrote. The Patriots saying they don't want to trade Garoppolo could simply be a ploy to get quarterback-needy teams to up their ante. Howe added that New England would be "happy" to hold onto 39-year-old Tom Brady's backup, but "they'd also be happy if a team met their trade demands." Unless the offer includes a first-round pick, Garoppolo will probably remain with the Patriots one more season.
If Garoppolo had qualified, his 0.44 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back would have ranked first among all quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs in 2016.
