Jets only receiving third-round pick offers for Sheldon Richardson

The New York Jets have received offers for defensive end Sheldon Richardson but teams are only willing to trade a third-round pick, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

What It Means:

Cimini fully expects the Jets to shop Richardson this offseason. He cites the team's "surplus of defensive linemen" and Richardson's immaturity as reasons for trading him. Moving Richardson would also free up $8.1 million in cap space. The Jets were hoping to get a first-rounder for Richardson leading up to the trade deadline, but if they are serious about moving him, they'll need to lower their asking price.

The Jets' defense ranked 10th-worst in opponent-adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) per play this year, but Richardson's contributions were felt in a defensive front that ranked fourth-best in opponent-adjusted Defensive Rushing NEP per play.
