Chiefs noncommittal on Jamaal Charles

Kansas City Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said "we'll see," in regards to running back Jamaal Charles' future with the team.

What It Means:

"He's working like the dickens to get himself ready for 2017," Dorsey said of Charles. "We'll see what happens in March, but right now I see him as a Chief." It sounds nice, but it's clear Dorsey and the decision-makers in Kansas City are unwilling to commit to Charles for what will be his age-30 season. They would free up $6.188 million in cap space by letting him go, so a new deal may be necessary for Charles to remain with the Chiefs.

Among the 54 running backs in 2015 to have at least 100 opportunities (rushes plus targets), Charles's 0.15 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt ranked second. The Chiefs ranked 21st in opponent-adjusted Rushing NEP per play.
