Gavin Escobar hauls in 5 catches for 47 yards against Chargers
Dallas Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar caught five of his seven targets against the San Diego Chargers on Thursday night.
Escobar converted them for 47 yards. No other Cowboy was targeted more than four times. Still firmly the backup to Jason Witten, Escobar continues to show flashes of potential when given the chance. He has also reportedly improved his blocking this offseason.
Last year, despite catching just nine passes, Escobar ranked 43rd among tight ends in our Reception Net Expected Points metric, which shows how many points above expectation level a player adds to his team. Our algorithms project him for a modest 14 receptions, 212 yards, and 4 touchdowns, but he could do much more if Witten ever slows down.
