Jacquizz Rodgers could see early touches in Buccaneers' backfield

Florida Football Insiders' Roy Cummings believes "you could see" Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Jacquizz Rodgers "carrying the ball earlier and far more often" against the New Orleans Saints in Week 14.

What It Means:

Cummings clarified that Doug Martin remains the "lead back," but expects Rodgers to hear his number called early if Martin continues to struggle. Offensive coordinator Todd Monken already admitted to being frustrated with his running game on Wednesday, so changes could be on the horizon in Tampa Bay's backfield. Neither makes for an appealing fantasy play in Week 14, but Martin makes for the superior play as a risky RB2/3. He's averaging just 3.0 yards per carry this season, compared to 4.4 for Rodgers.

numberFire's models currently expect Rodgers to rush 7 times for 35 yards with 0.24 touchdowns against the Saints, adding another catch for nine yards through the air. Martin is pegged for 63 rushing yards and 0.31 touchdowns on 16 carries, as well as 24 receiving yards on 3 catches in Week 14. He's our 22nd-best running back for fantasy this week. For the season, his -0.19 Rushing Net Expected Points per play are worst among the 32 running backs with at least 100 carries.
