Jordan Howard in firm control of Bears' backfield

Chicago Bears running back Jordan Howard now has a "stranglehold" on the team's starting job, according to ESPN Bears reporter Jeff Dickerson.

What It Means:

Entering Monday night, it appeared Howard was headed for a committee in Chicago's backfield with Jeremy Langford and Ka'Deem Carey. He then proceeded to pile up 202 yards on 30 touches while dominating more than 81 percent of the snaps. Howard will be the expected starter coming out of the Bears' bye when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10, but head coach John Fox is known for his fickle ways, so the situation remains fluid.

Howard is averaging 0.05 Rushing Net Expected Points per play on 98 carries this season. Among the 39 backs with at least 50 rushes in 2016, that number ranks 12th in the NFL.
