Colts were eyeing Josh Ferguson in fourth round of NFL Draft
The Indianapolis Colts began considering rookie running back Josh Ferguson as early as the fourth round of May's draft, the Indianapolis Star reports.
The Colts instead devoted their entire draft class to fixing their long-term defensive and the offensive line issues, but Ferguson still made it back to them after going undrafted. Beat writer Stephen Holder reports Ferguson "made a distinct impression" during OTA's. "He’s a mismatch out in space," coach Chuck Pagano. "He’s got juice. He can go." Competing with middling talents like journeymen Robert Turbin and Jordan Todman, Ferguson is a name to keep in mind behind 33-year-old starter Frank Gore.
Gore had a -0.11 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per carry rate in 2015, which ranked 40th among the 44 running backs with at least 100 attempts last year. His Reception NEP per target was hardly better at 0.27, which ranked 31st among these same players.
