Bills' Nyheim Hines needs season-ending knee surgery

Buffalo Bills running back Nyheim Hines will undergo season-ending knee surgery after he was injured in a jet ski accident.

What It Means:

Hines was struck by another rider and will miss the entire 2023 season. He was expected to play a change-of-pace role for the Bills, but Hines' absence should now free up more opportunities for James Cook, Damien Harris, and Latavius Murray.

Hines played just 62 offensive snaps in nine games for the Bills last season after he was acquired from the Indianapolis Colts at the trade deadline. He rushed 6 times for negative-3 yards and was targeted 9 times. numberFire's models project Cook for 154.2 carries and 711.9 rushing yards in 2023, plus 36.7 receptions (51.9 targets) and 268.4 receiving yards, with 6.23 total touchdowns. Harris is projected for 134.1 carries and 13.1 catches while Murray is forecasted for only 22.3 rush attempts and 9.0 receptions.
