Miami's Xavien Howard expected to start in 2016
Miami Dolphins rookie cornerback Xavien Howard, who the team took in the second round, is expected to open the season as a starter, according to ESPN Dolphins reporter James Walker.
A raw corner who commits too many penalties and takes too many gambles, Howard might not be ready to start, but the Dolphins do not have much choice. Tony Lippett, a 2015 fifth-round pick, opened minicamp as the starter opposite Byron Maxwell, but he was a receiver in college who is still trying to learn the corner position. Bobby McCain also went in the fifth round last year, but he is more of a slot prospect. Howard should be able to beat both out for the starting job.
