Deshaun Watson already "enjoying" Texans' coaching changeups
Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson praised new interim coach Romeo Crenell for his "loose" approach, "hilarious" personality, and ability to engage his players in meetings.
The Texans had a completely different feel in Week 5 after finally escaping from Bill O'Brien's reign, and the reported good vibes coming from the team's practices bled over into their strong Week 5 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. While Watson has played at an elite level since his first year in the NFL, he was often tasked with carrying the offense in a conservative play-calling system that left him stranded on third-and-longs all too often.
One Texans player praised Crenell's aggressive play-calling mindset, specifically with their call on Brandin Cooks' 4th-quarter touchdown, saying, "let's not leave anything to chance. Let's end them." Watson set season-highs in passing yards and touchdowns in Week 5 while attempting his second-most passes of the season, even despite the positive game script. Things are trending up in Houston.
