Saints' Michael Thomas reportedly dealing with high ankle sprain
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas is reportedly dealing with a high ankle sprain acquired during Sunday's Week 1 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Thomas still played on 81% of the team's offensive snaps (the most of any skill position player on the team), but the injury could explain his uncharacteristically quiet night. The star drew just 5 targets Sunday, catching 3 of them for 17 scoreless yards. While the NFL's Tom Pelissero reported that Thomas believes he can play through the injury, fantasy managers that drafted Thomas should be prepared to be without him in Week 2 just in case as the team's Week 2 matchup will take place on Monday Night Football.
We've seen high ankle sprains severely limit even elite players like Saquon Barkley during the recovery process, so we should be curbing expectations for Thomas heading into Week 2. If Thomas misses the game, Emmanuel Sanders and Tre'Quan Smith would figure to see the most opportunities at the receiver position.
