Harrison Smith, Vikings expected to work on extension
Minnesota Vikings free safety Harrison Smith is expected to sign an extension this offseason.
Smith is entering the final year of his rookie contract after the Vikings exercised his fifth-year option last offseason. He's set to earn a $5.278 million salary, but the Vikings can lower his cap number by working out a long-term pact.
Smith missed two games and parts of a couple others late in the season with a hamstring issue, but he still graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 2 overall safety. He received strong marks both in coverage and against the run. He finished with 49 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two picks and three passes defended.
