Tyrod Taylor confirmed as Chargers' Week 1 starter
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor will be the Week 1 starter against the Cincinnati Bengals, head coach Anthony Lynn confirmed.
"Right now, Tyrod Taylor is our starter," Lynn said. "Until someone steps up and shows that they can run this team, that’s the way we’re going in to it. Tyrod Taylor is our starter." This confirms what has been expected for most of the offseason. First-round pick Justin Herbert is unlikely to get a chance to start unless Taylor struggles or suffers an injury.
Taylor was the QB10 (2015), QB8 (2016), and QB21 (2017) in terms of FanDuel points per game in his last three years as a starter with the Buffalo Bills. He performed either at or above league average in numberFire's adjusted passing metric each of those three seasons. During his four-game tenure with the Cleveland Browns in 2019, Taylor finished second-to-last in numberFire's adjusted passing metric among the 44 quarterbacks with at least 95 dropbacks that season.
