Lawrence Timmons may restructure contract with Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to "explore" a contract restructuring with linebacker Lawrence Timmons, the Beaver County Times' Chris Bradford said.

What It Means:

Soon-to-be 30, Timmons is set to count over $15.1 million against the salary cap in the final year of his deal. Pittsburgh can save $8.5 million by releasing Timmons, but it would be tough to part ways with a veteran leader who has started every game for the past five seasons. Even with Ryan Shazier ready to take the next step, the Steelers likely want to keep Timmons around. An extension could work for both sides.

The Steelers ended the regular season ranked ninth in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play. Timmons -- who has amazingly missed just two games in his nine-year career -- finished the season with 119 tackles and five sacks.
