Rudy Gay expected to opt out of Kings' deal for 2017

Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay has informed the team that he will decline his player option for 2017, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

What It Means:

Gay also isn't expected to renegotiate a deal with the team, meaning he's ready to bounce from Sacramento. Making this known will only hurt Gay's trade value, so the Kings would be wise to move him sooner rather than later if they don't want to let him walk for nothing. Several teams are reportedly interested, but specifics haven't materialized and the idea of only having him as a one-year rental may turn potential suitors away. If a deal does get done, a new home could put a damper on Gay's fantasy value. His absence would create opportunity for Matt Barnes and Omri Casspi as savvy late-round picks.

Gay struggled to a -2.2 nERD last season (102nd in the NBA) in 70 games played. He averaged 17.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest, while recording a .538 true shooting percentage that was slightly above his .531 career mark.
