D-Backs' Jake Lamb (shoulder) might need season-ending surgery

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Jake Lamb has "fraying" in his left rotator cuff and could need season-ending surgery, manager Torey Lovullo announced.

What It Means:

Surgery is not the only option, and a late September return is not out of the question if the injury can be rehabbed. The third baseman will apparently seek other opinions before deciding on the next course of action. This locks in Eduardo Escobar at the hot corner and Nick Ahmed at shortstop for the foreseeable future.

Across 238 plate appearances this year, Lamb has sustained a .655 OPS with 6 home runs, 34 runs, and 31 RBI.
