Mike Maddux

Mike Maddux likely to be Nationals' pitching coach

Mike Maddux will likely be named as the new pitching coach for the Washington Nationals, according to William Ladson of MLB.com.

What It Means:

Maddux is available for the position after leaving the same position with the Texas Rangers this offseason. He spent seven years as the Rangers' pitching coach.

The Nationals had the fifth best team xFIP this season at 3.58, and much of the staff should be back for 2016. This includes notable starters Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg, as well as the opportunity for some of the team's prospects to make the Opening Day roster in Lucas Giolito, Erick Fedde, Reynaldo Lopez, and A.J. Cole. The opportunity to coach these arms would be enticing for any pitching coach.
