Yankees say Gary Sanchez (groin) is likely headed to the disabled list
New York Yankees' manager Aaron Boone said after Sunday's game that catcher Gary Sanchez is likely heading to the disabled list with a groin strain.
Sanchez hurt his groin running to first base in the 10th inning on Sunday, and it's not yet known how long he might need to sit out. Austin Romine will likely take over every day catching duties while Sanchez is out. There is also a good chance the Yankees recall Kyle Higashioka to get some reps backing up Romine.
Before going down with injury, our models projected Sanchez for a .254 batting average with 12 home runs, 27 runs scored, and 31 RBI over 197 plate appearances remaining this season.
