Dominic Smith (quad) expected to return for Mets on Sunday
New York Mets first baseman Dominic Smith (quad) is expected to return to Grapefruit League action on Sunday.
Smith's ailing right quad has limited him to 1 official at-bat in Grapefruit League play. The 22-year-old was expected to compete for the starting job at first base, but he may be hard-pressed to earn the gig with only a few weeks left before Opening Day.
Smith slashed .198/.262/.395 with 9 home runs, 26 RBI, and 17 runs scored in 183 plate appearances (49 games) last season.
