Jake Diekman dominant in middle relief for Texas
Texas Rangers reliever Jake Diekman fired two shutout innings as the Rangers edged the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-4, Friday afternoon to take a 2-0 lead in their ALDS matchup.
Diekman -- a 6-foot-4 lefty who came to Texas as part of the Cole Hamels trade -- was firing bullets in this one. Featuring an upper-90s heater and a low-90s slider, Diekman fanned two while facing the minimum in his two innings of work.
Diekman, who spent seven seasons in the minors before sticking in the bigs with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2013, posted a 3.57 xFIP and fanned 10.59 hitters per nine innings this season.
