Pirates' Pedro Alvarez not in lineup for Wild Card game
Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Pedro Alvarez is not in the starting lineup for the National League Wild Game Game against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. Sean Rodriguez will get the start at first and bat eighth.
Alvarez is much better from the dish, with a .333 wOBA this year compared to only .281 for Rodriguez, but this appears to be a move to shore up the defense for the Pirates. Alvarez accounted for -22.6 runs above average, by far the lowest mark on the team.
