Jets announce Josh McCown as Week 1 starter

New York Jets quarterback Josh McCown will open the season as the starter, head coach Todd Bowles announced on Monday.

What It Means:

This doesn't come as a huge surprise, but there had been plenty of speculation that 2016 second-round pick Christian Hackenberg would be under center for the Jets as they take on the Buffalo Bills in Week 1. Bryce Petty is the other option on the depth chart, and he may wind up getting the call over Hackenberg once the 38-year-old McCown goes down with an inevitable injury. The fantasy outlooks of Bilal Powell, Matt Forte, and Robby Anderson all remain intact.

McCown is numberFire's 31st-ranked fantasy quarterback entering the season. We project him to throw for 3,333.2 passing yards with 18.1 touchdowns and 13.6 interceptions in 2017.
