Mets call up Dominic Smith from Triple-A Las Vegas
The New York Mets have officially called up first base prospect Dominic Smith from Triple-A Vegas, according to the team's Twitter account.
As the Mets designate reliever Fernando Salas for assignment on Friday, they will promote Smith, MLB.com's 41st-ranked prospect in baseball. A former first-round pick, the 22-year-old figures to get the majority of starts at first base down the stretch as the Mets continue to fill out their infield of the future with he and Amed Rosario. If and when T.J. Rivera (elbow) returns, he'll likely take a backseat to the youngster.
In exactly 500 plate appearances, Smith has tallied 16 dingers, 34 doubles and 76 RBI with a .391 wOBA at Triple-A this season.
