Jake Odorizzi suffers right foot contusion in Rays' loss
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi exited Wednesday's game against the Boston Red Sox with a right foot contusion.
Odorizzi, who was making his first start since being activated off the disabled list after missing several weeks due to a lower back strain, was smacked by a liner in the fifth inning on Wednesday that immediately sent him to the ground. Things looked bad in the moment, but he's considered day-to-day after X-rays came back negative. The 27-year-old right-hander allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts across 4 innings before exiting.
For the season, Odorizzi is 6-5 through 19 starts while twirling a 4.38 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 20.0 strikeout percentage across 98 2/3 frames.
